CNR-ISMAR-SP is a local unit of the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISMAR), that is one of the main Italian actors in oceanographic research in polar, oceanic and Mediterranean regions. CNR-ISMAR-SP has a long experience in marine studies mainly with an experimental approach and has organized numerous oceanographic surveys in the Mediterranean Sea. It has acquired a significant competence in the management of technologically advanced oceanographic instruments and probes, and in the development of methods for an integrated use of experimental data and models. The main activity is the study of the marine circulation and of the physical processes forcing it. In the main area of interest, the Mediterranean Sea, CNR-ISMAR-SP has concentrated on the regional-scale circulation and in particular with the exchanges between sub-basins, in order to understand the different scales of variability, from the seasonal cycle to climatic trends. CNR-ISMAR-SP hosts the JERICO Production Units (PUs) ISMAR SP, ISMAR HFR SP and partially the EuroGOOS European HFR Node Component. The ISMAR SP PU manages several facilities acquired during the ITINERIS project and belonging to CNR-ISMAR, including different type of drifters (CARTHE and MARTA), three gliders, various GUARD-one imaging systems and a smart observatory facility that shall be deployed nearby the Tino Island. The unit automatically acquires raw data from the above-cited facilities, performs checks, pre-processing, processing, quality-control and distributes data, with the corresponding metadata, in standards and formats recognized at the international level. When possible additional products are generated using standards and formats recognized at the international level. The ISMAR HFR SP PU manages product generation and performs output check and quality control for High Frequency Radar (HFR) data. The EuroGOOS European HFR Node Component is based on the EuroGOOS European HFR Node, that is a thematic component within the JERICO RI dedicated to the processing chain of HFR-derived data. The component is made up by the PU HFR ISMAR SP, devoted to Near Real Time (NRT) data processing and management, and the external PU HFR AZTI, dedicated to Delayed Mode (DM) data. Through the internal PU HFR ISMAR SP, this component fully manages NRT data and only partially DM data produced by HFR systems operated by the Italian JERICO partners, i.e. CNR-ISMAR and OGS. The component capitalizes on the practice of most of the HF radar operators and data providers in Europe which are organized under the EuroGOOS HFR Task Team framework and provide data to a data management competence center named as the "European HFR Node". The Node was established by three JERICO partners (AZTI, CNR-ISMAR and SOCIB) in 2018 and it has been operational since April 2019 for delivering data to the Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS-INSTAC), SeaDataNet (SDN/SDC) and EMODnet Physics. The Node also distributes services and support for standardization to the HFR providers. CNR-ISMAR-SP is actively involved into the Node operations as it is fully in charge for the above-described functionalities for near-real time HF radar data and partially in charge for the same functionalities for delayed-mode HF radar data. The EuroGOOS European HFR Node component is indeed used for the HF radar marine current data collection, processing and quality control, for archiving data and products, for interfacing with Marine Data Store and updating metadata for HFR data.
