The Institute of Polar Sciences (ISP) is a leading research institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). It is dedicated to advancing Italy’s scientific presence and leadership in polar research and operates under the Department of Earth System Science and Environmental Technologies (DSSTTA) of the CNR. CNR-ISP conducts multidisciplinary research in the Arctic and Antarctic regions and extends its studies to high-altitude cryospheric environments, including the so-called Third Pole. In these areas, extensive glaciers play a critical role in the global climate system. CNR-ISP’s work encompasses climate change, polar and high-altitude ecosystems, glaciology, geology, oceanographic, atmospheric sciences and related fields, supporting national and international science and environmental policy.
