The digitisation and metadating service for marine scientific collections by CNR-ISMAR is designed to create digital collections according to international standards: transcription of all available information relating to the physical object into digital format, image acquisition of specimens and documents to create the digital object of the physical collections. The CNR-ISMAR "MicroODIG 2D/3D" laboratories are equipped with: Dell Mobile Precision Workstation 7670, Monitor Coloredge CG2700X (27 inch, R: 164 ppi), Digital planetary scanner Bookeye® 3 HR (600x 400 dpi), Camera EP50 Olympus, Binocular stereomicroscopes and µFT-IR Microscope. The data outputs of the digitisation of specimens will be: high resolution images of specimen; metadata associated with the imaging of the specimen; unique specimen barcode/QRcode. In this service, guidelines on DarwinCore ontology and specimen data/metadata registration in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) are made available.
